Does Enscape work on Mac? Yes — but with a hard condition that catches a lot of people out: it only runs on Apple Silicon Macs. If you have an M1, M2, M3, or M4 machine, you're good. If you have an Intel Mac, Enscape will not run at all — and there's no workaround. Here's the full picture so you know exactly where you stand before spending anything.

The one rule: Apple Silicon only

Enscape's rendering engine relies heavily on the Apple Silicon GPU and Unified Memory. That's why the support line is so clean:

Works: Any Mac with an M-series chip — MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, or Mac Studio from 2020 onward with M1, M2, M3, or M4.

Does not work: Any Intel-based Mac. Not natively, not through Boot Camp, not through Parallels or any virtualization. Intel Macs are, in Enscape's own terms, incompatible with current Mac requirements. There is no version of Enscape that runs on them.

So the first thing to check is your chip. Apple menu → About This Mac. If it says "Apple M-something," you're set. If it says "Intel," Enscape is off the table on that machine.

Which apps Enscape works with on Mac

On Mac, the Enscape plugin works with the supported CAD/BIM apps that themselves run on Mac — primarily SketchUp, Rhino, Archicad, and Vectorworks. (Revit doesn't run natively on Mac, so the Revit workflow is a Windows thing.)

One version note worth knowing: SketchUp versions before 2024 do not officially support macOS 14 Sonoma, which can cause technical issues. Keep your CAD/BIM software updated to the latest version for the smoothest experience with Enscape.

Performance on Apple Silicon

On a capable M-series Mac, Enscape performs well — the Unified Memory architecture is what it's tuned for. As with any Enscape setup, more capable hardware means smoother performance at higher resolutions. A multi-monitor setup is recommended for working between your CAD/BIM software and the Enscape render view.

The general system requirements still apply in spirit: Enscape is GPU-dependent, so a more powerful M-series chip (Pro, Max, or Ultra variants) will handle complex scenes better than a base chip.

If you're on an Intel Mac

You have three realistic options:

  1. Upgrade to an Apple Silicon Mac. The only way to run Enscape natively on Mac.
  2. Use a Windows machine for your Enscape workflow, if you have access to one with a dedicated GPU.
